Unfoalding The Napkin

Stephen interviews Dan Roam, author of "The Back of the Napkin". Stephen will talk with Dan about his new book "Unfolding The Napkin."

Dan Roam's The Back of the Napkin, a BusinessWeek bestseller, taught readers the power of brainstorming and communicating with pictures. It introduced a completely new way to look at problems and see solutions, from the boardroom to the sales floor to the cubicle.

This companion workbook, Unfolding the Napkin, helps readers put Dan's principles into practice with step-by-step guidelines. It's filled with detailed case studies, guided do-it-yourself exercises, and plenty of blank space for drawing. Roam structured the book as a complete four-day visual-thinking seminar, taking readers step-by-step from "I can't draw" to "Here is the picture I drew that I think will save the world."

Watch for the interview coming up.

Dina Beauvais - TV Star, author and entrepreneur

InventRight student Dina Beauvais will be appearing on a national TV Show soon. Watch the newsletter for more details soon. In the mean time see what she has to say about inventRight.

Stephen Key, co-founder of inventRight came highly recommended to me from several credible sources. I hired Stephen as my mentor and a few months later he encouraged me to apply for a Hit Reality TV Show on a major TV network because they were looking for mom inventors. (We can disclose details after August, 2010). Our episode features our 2 patent pending products and will be on an aggressive re-run schedule in multiple countries for the next 3 years. What incredible publicity, thanks to Stephen. Additionally, Stephen referred The LA Times to me for an interview about our 2 products which they voted in the top 3 out of 9 innovations created in the 2009 recession. A BIG “Thank you” to Stephen!
Stephen is a terrific example of someone who pursued and achieved his dream of being a successful inventor. He’s been using his gift of innovation to create many new products over the past 20+ years as his full time job. With millions in royalties from his many inventions he’s able to live the life of his dreams being able to spend quality and quantity time with family and friends, loving his work and helping many other inventors achieve their dreams.

Why Do Inventors Do Everything Wrong?

Many inventors feel as though they’re doing everything wrong - nothing is working out, they can’t find someone to license their idea, and they’re exhausted. Unfortunately, more often than not, inventors are doing everything the harder way. And there are usually two reasons for this. The inventor hasn’t sought any advice from an experienced inventor or the inventor is following advice they received from someone who has had no success at the inventing game.

Ask The Attorney

Patent Attorney Damon Kali answers your inventing and patent related questions each week.

Have a question?
Send it to info@kali-law.com

Q: How do I pick a patent attorney?

A:  Word of mouth is always a good choice in my mind. You can also look for attorneys on the state bar site of your particular state. You can search for an attorney or patent agent on the USPTO site, but there is no mechanism for referral there.

Here are a couple of things to look for:

  • Does the attorney or agent's expertise match your inventive technology?
  • Are you dealing with an attorney or a patenting company?
  • Do the prices seem very low?
  • Is the estimate inclusive of things like photocopying or mailing?
  • How many years experience does the attorney or agent have?
  • Has the attorney had any disciplinary actions?
  • What is the attorney's attitude about interviewing Examiners?
  • How did you feel about the attention you got at the initial consultation?
  • Did the attorney speak plainly or were you confused by lots of legalese?

What kinds of value does the attorney add?

Mostly, try to figure out whether you can work with this person over the next 6 or so years while your application is in process. Remember, this is a service and you should be happy with the service you for which you pay. Don't hesitate to talk to several attorneys. Your secrets are generally protected when you approach an attorney for legal advice. Ask the attorney if you have any questions about secrecy.

Damon

What a student says about the course...

I just wanted to drop a note of thanks for the Webinar tonight. The personal coaching and sincere concern for your students is evident. I am so glad I am one of them. I am studying & brainstorming every chance I get.

You provide so much more than "Ideas make Millions" you "Coach into Royalties"

The tools that both of you provide to your students remind me of this Chinese Proverb:

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

Thank You!
Stacey
