Swingin Shoes Invented by Otto D'Agnolo

“I originally read Stephen’s book ‘One Simple Idea’ years ago after seeing it in ‘The 4 Hour Work Week.’ Before that, I didn’t even know that developing a product and licensing it to a company was even a thing.
It was years later though, in 2019, that my product idea came to me while my kids were in the bath and I decided to give it a go.
Using the amazing content that inventRight shares for free, I was able to build a medieval looking prototype (not at all suitable for kids) and design a basic sell sheet myself, but I still didn’t really have a clue how to find a company to license my product.
After a decent amount of procrastination, I decided to get a coach from inventRight.
I was connected with April Mitchell and that’s when everything changed.
April is possibly the most smiley and positive person I’ve ever met, but she has killer instincts when it comes to product design and licensing.
The big milestones that April and the inventRight team helped me to nail down were:
1. Drafting and filing the patent application
2. Designing a winning sell sheet
3. Navigating the contract negotiations
As ever though, the real value was in the smaller, less tangible things.
April was amazing at keeping me motivated and showing me how to set up a system to make it easier and more formulaic to find a company to license my product.
I really think having a coach saved me years and innumerable mistakes, but more than anything it stopped me from giving up when the only reply was ‘no thanks’ or when life got busy.
Now I finally have my first product licensed and I have the bug to develop more.
I’ll always be grateful to April and the whole inventRight team. I couldn’t have done it without you.”
