IAfter a garage-built first prototype sparked by a friendly debate about hats, David Kachadourian used insights from Stephen Key’s book, One Simple Idea, to iterate materials, refine construction, and turn Pop Hat from idea to product. With inventRight guidance shaping his approach, he persevered through trial and error and brought a crush-resistant travel hat to market.
“In August 2014, I was in New Braunfels, Texas. My friend and I were getting in an ATV. He was wearing a western straw hat and I was wearing a boonie hat. I told him he needed a hat like mine. He told me I looked like a dork. I told him I didn’t like his hat because it was just another thing to carry and most likely would get crushed in travel.
I went back home and decided I was going to make a better hat. I ordered material off the Internet. I bought a sewing machine from Walmart and started sewing in my garage. (I had no Pop Hat clue what I was doing.)
